Abstract

|
Extraocular muscles differ anatomically, physiologically, and immunologically from limb muscle. These special properties of extraocular muscles compared to skeletal muscle might be the cause of a specific vulnerability to diverse diseases. In this paper, I will concentrate on entities more likely to be encounted in neuro-ophthalmological practice, namely endocrine and inflammatory myopathies, and the muscular dystrophies.
